This Alberto Fabiani 1960s cream / gold dress coat is a superbly elegant piece of Italian haute couture. Fabiani was referred to as" Italy's master tailor " and his work was described in the New York Times as "a quiet marvel of architecture". Unsurprisingly, the deceptively simple shift cut is the outcome of skilful tailoring, showcasing highly sophisticated design features. The woven raw silk overlay is s warm cream/gold, presenting an oversized check patterned motif. The Balmacaan collar and trench coat style cuffs create a formal feel, and the dress flares out flatteringly at the hip to finish just below the knee. The gilt buttons run horizontally below the collar and a further x 4 drop at a sharp vertical down the left side of the bodice. There is notably no zip fastening, and the dress must be stepped into for access. In wonderful vintage condition, any irregularities in the surface texture are in the nature of the fabric. Would best suit US size 4 -6, UK size 8 - 10.
